Eén van de huidige hete hangijzers in het vervoer van goederen en personen is het probleem van de beveiliging. Criminaliteit in het transport - diefstal, bedrog, fiscale fraude, georganiseerde misdaad, mensensmokkel - is geen recent fenomeen. Sinds 11 september 2001 is het ook duidelijk dat 'transport' in zijn breedste betekenis uitermate geschikt is als middel tot (terroristische) oorlogsvoering. Het gevolg is dat het thema 'beveiliging' meer en meer een topbeleidsprioriteit wordt. Verschillende marktspelers wachten met ongeduld op een duidelijk wettelijk kader, normgeving en op de technologie die hen in staat moet stellen waterdichte garanties te kunnen geven. Een waaier aan maatregelen op dit vlak (ISPS-code, CSI, C-TPAT) werden al opgelegd. Andere staan op stapel.Beveiliging is geen zaak van één enkele modus of van één enkele partij. Zowat elke vervoermodus, gaande van luchtvaart, zeevaart, vervoer te land, intermodaal vervoer, heeft hier belang bij. Zowat elke actor in het transport of de logistieke keten (vervoerder, transportorganisator, overheden, verlader, consument) is betrokken partij. Beveiliging kent bovendien letterlijk en figuurlijk zijn prijs. Enerzijds zijn er de gemaakte kosten, die niet elke keer zomaar identificeerbaar en verrekenbaar zijn versus de potentiële baten van veiligheidsinvesteringen, die niet altijd kwantificeerbaar zijn. Anderzijds knaagt de verhoogde beveiliging (door meer controles) aan de flexibiliteit van het vervoersgebeuren.Hoewel er al heel wat praktijkgerichte seminaries bestaan ter preventie van diefstal of bevordering van schademinimalisering ontbreekt het tot op vandaag aan een integrale en vooruitziende visie op de gebeurtenissen. Dit boek wil deze leemte invullen. Transport and mobility are essential parts of the current organization of society. Complex activities are interwoven in such a way that problems occurring from the actual process of constant movement cannot be separated, as they are so tightly interconnected. This book examines the health effects of transport and mobility by addressing the major issues related to the subject and analyzing their consequences. Thus not only are air pollution, noise, and sedentarism and its related endocrine problems discussed, but topics such as jet-lag, accidents and violent displacement are also addressed.
